Battle against “Death Walls” continues

At the open hearings in Kamchatka Regional Duma deputies voted unanimously for the complete ban on drift-net fishing for Salmon in the Russian waters.
A film with the interview given by one of the drifter vessel crew member was demonstrated during the hearings. This film was telling on the fact that the total harvest of Salmon, that includes also the harvests which are not registered in the fishing operations registry journal on board, exceeded the reported catch made by this vessels in as much as 10 times. This means that 90% of the catch made by vessel, from which that crew member told his story, was not registered / accounted for at all. It included Pink Salmon, Chum Salmon and lower quality Sockeye Salmon that were not good enough to the Japanese customers and thus discarded overboard.
